Challenge or Delight

I don't really go to see a movie with wanting to be entertained or to be taught something, in mind. I usually just go to see a movie because I simply thought something about it was interesting. The goal of movies should perhaps be to challenge us and give us some excitement; perhaps it's not possible all the time. Perhaps the plot of the movie lends itself more to teaching rather than delighting us, or vice versa. There are plenty of films that perhaps try to do both, but don't do it well enough. There is something great about movies that manage to do both things, but I think there's also a place just for movies that do one. A movie that only entertains for example, could be just as interesting as one that challenges you; as long as it's written well.
