So here’s some of my thoughts on some of the animation
videos from this week that I enjoyed.
I really liked Co Hoedeman’s Tchou-Tchou and thought it
was incredibly creative. I loved the smart uses of the blocks for everything
in the film and how colorful the world was. It was cool how it took some
ideas from the biblical story of the Garden of Eden and then put its own twist
on things, taking away and adding new elements to create its own unique story.
Yuri Norstein’s The Battle of Kerzhenets was another very
creative piece. It created an incredibly cool and unique look through its
amazing art style. The cinematography was also great. During the battle I
really felt the intensity of it from the movement the images were creating despite
the fact that they were just paintings.
I also enjoyed Norstein’s Hedgehog in the Fog. Once again he used a unique and awesome art style that set it apart from other animated films.
The fog gave off a good sense of mystery as the hedgehog made his way through it and
it was really interesting watching the hedgehog explore the areas in the fog.
And finally, Norstein’s Tale of Tales was a great film. Even
though we only got through the first half of it, I latched onto its themes dealing
with things like as war and loss. It doesn’t play like a conventional story, as
there does not seem to be much of a chronological structure to it, but you can
still make sense of it for the most part and that’s part of what makes it’s so interesting and
unique. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of it.
