King's Quest (Again)

If any of you remember a couple of the first posts I put out, King's Quest has been a topic I've brought up a few times and I'm hear to bring it up again. A game this fantastic, which such obvious work and care put into making it fantastic - how can I keep quiet?

The graphics are amazing. Everything thankfully stays out of that horrible realm of the Uncanny Valley, but is still believable enough that you're in a world where all of these creatures and people are real. The backgrounds and textures in the game are hand painted - which shows you just how much the people who made this game (The Odd Gentlemen for Sierra Entertainment) really wanted to put in the extra effort. I've only recently gotten the first chapter to this game (which comes in a total of five chapters). I think it's great that they make you wait for the next chapter because it means that they're taking their time to make sure they release something that they're proud of. You can tell from screenshots and from gameplays on Youtube that they have put a lot of work even into the smallest of details.

All of the characters have some sort of personality and some quirks that bring them to life, even the more "background" or "secondary" characters to the game.

The plot revolves around Graham, the man with the red cape and the feather in his hat, but as an old man. It is him telling the story of how he became king of Daventry to his granddaughter. You play as Graham, making the choices that got him to where he is. There are of course, wrong choices and time based actions that you can fail that will lead you to "dying", but it's really just Graham having some fun or forgetting how the story goes (only to be prompted that he's kidding or with a "Grandpa!" from his granddaughter who's heard the story a million times).

If you'd like to see more about King's Quest, you can always check out the trailer, or watch the first episode of this let's play on Youtube. I personally love this let's play because one of the people who plays King's Quest has played the other games in the King's Quest series from Sierra Entertainment. It great to hear someone's opinion on the new King's Quest game coming from a viewpoint of having played the older ones, and how it compares and differs from them. Although do be warned, there is swearing and perhaps some rude/crude jokes (but I'm not sure about the latter).

The trailer for the game can be found here:
