Radical feminism is a touchy subject to some, and can be very controversial. I think it is necessary to talk about sometimes and the films shown in class earlier today did a good job bringing up the uncomfortableness that usually permeates any discussion on the topic. Feminism by itself is a range of movements and ideologies that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equal political, economic, cultural, personal, and social rights for women. There is nothing wrong with this. It is when the topic of radical feminism is brought up that many people get heated over. Radical feminism is a perspective within feminism that calls for a radical reordering of society in which male supremacy is eliminated in all social and economic contexts. I think that it is good that we are getting viewpoints from women. I am a feminist but also a masculinist. I agree in equality, and not superiority from either side (which is what a radical feminist or male chauvinist would do). What makes me mad is when radical feminist screams out "Sexist!" when a man enters a film before a girl (or whatever the similar circumstance may be). We need to know what feminism and radical feminism when making films so that people can understand the difference.
